Captains Corner - 24/10/2021

So here we go, so much to get through. So grab a beverage and settle down for a long Captains corner. Forgive me if I miss someone out or get anything wrong, it’s not personal there is just a lot of it!

We start at seems a long time ago and there seems a lot of runninag has passed since Oct 10.

Seven club members set of to the Tiptree 10 (10 miles). Tracey Sheehy came home in 1:19. After Tracey I was happy with a time of 1:33, then cam Lynton Fairman close behind in 1::35 and Jane Swanson-sprent in 1:37, it was good to see Jane back in team colours we have missed her around club. Timi Veerasamy then came in a time of 1:46 and then Emma O'Shea and Lorraine Moor Hilton in 1:52. This was a nice 10 mile with plenty of fields to look at.

At the same time Julie Cardnell took on the Royal Parks half marathon and completed in 2:56 and Jason Manning hit a half marathon PB at the Silverstone half marathon and came home in 2:00.

On the 17th of October Peter Salmon, Rosina Salmon and Ian Cummins went to Chelmsford and the Salmons knew the way after completing th Half a couple of weeks ago. Ian completed in 4:21 again good to see Ian out in club colours (well at least this side of the border for a change). Rosina hit a marathon PB in 4:22. But I’m sure you’ll all give Peter a big high five for hitting a great time of 3:15:12 and the twelve seconds unfortunately cost a good for age place in next years London Marathon. Although a disappointment this must have been it was a truly great run Pete.

Whilst all this was going on the 88’s had a large contingent recovering from a drink the night before on the South coast when the Great South Run in Portsmouth hosted a large number of Daggers.

Gary Cardnell came in in a time of 1:29, then a PB for Louise Honey Chappell in 1:30, I hit 1:36 (bit disappointed), Steve Whitfield made a long trip and the red and white top of Dagenham on (but had to have a photo with it hidden for his new “friends” down in the country) his time was 1:37. Andy Beazeley got a time of 1:39. Kaya Smith had a PB 1:43. Kaya is new to the club and in the two weeks of knowing her we have got her hitting PB’s.

Emma and Jenny O'Hanlon then in 1:44 just seconds ahead of Melissa Tuppen Embery also on 1:44. Lorraine’s official time was 1:50 but when the app starts for next year she may still show up as still running. Sara caught her breath after karaoke and came in 1:53, a big club thank you also Sara Jo for a well organised evening meal. Julie had a a time of 2:06 and then came Denise Woolston and Jacqui Elliott on 2:14.

In the whole it was a really nice weekend with great company and most have already rebooked.

On the same day we also had Tracey doing the Burnham on Crouch 10k and was the 4th lady home overall and picked up a large prize fund (well enough for a red wine or two) but a time of 47:35 was a great achievement for Tracey and the club, well done.

Caroline Tuck took on the Cabbage Patch 10 miles and done a great with a time of 1:19.

And breath, my fingers are hurting, how do those teens do this all day!! Have a sip of whatever is taking your fancy on this Sunday evening.. right ready for part two?

On Wednesday we ventured over to Stratford for race three of Chingford league.

First off was Ryder who came 9th in 8:06 in the U13’s race. Well done Ryder.

Women were next and Nat Booth came in first for Dagenham in 24:43 followed by Rahana Islam on 25:14 and then Timi in 29:26 and then we had a couple of new to Chingford league races. Kaya came home in 30:05 and Dawn Rachel in 36:09 wel done you two for putting the vest on an completing your first league race.

Next came the men’s team and we had a good turnout. Led by Billy Walkington in 21:32 another fine tune Billy, going really well in these fixtures, keep it going. Manji Gami was next in on a time of 24:02 with a line of 88’s coming in quick and close to each other. Ian on 24:02, Gary 24:41, Michael Pegnall 25:04, Costas Kotrofis on 25:06, Lynton 26:29, me on 26:33, Andy on 28:27 and Ashok Chaudhary 29:17. Costas and Ashok had their first outing in club colours and a race environment. Well done guys.

Onto Beachy weekend. Yesterday was Marathon day and judging by the photos it was a nice weekend for one everyone had perfected there athletic qualities and ready to take on what is a tough marathon. Great to see Paul Prior back in the shirt of the 88’s and he achieved a great time of 4:22. Tracey carried on her great form and hit a time of 4:48, Rahana 4:53, Gary in 5:17, Emma Dudman in 5:22 Jane in 5:37 and Louise in 5:46. Melissa in 6:08 and Sara in 6:15. Emma and Beverley Eagles 6:18 with Timi on 6:23.

This morning the 10k took place and we had Sonya Byers in 1:15, Kresh Veerasamy in 1:23 and Julie in 1:33. A big well done to everyone.

Did not have a time but thanks Ronnie Waller for posting that Grace Kelly completed her Liverpool marathon in 5:35 A real fine effort by Grace, well done.

And finally (I think) is Peggers who today completed a Phoenix half marathon in 1:58.

Not going to post any pics as there are a lot of events and everyone who has taken part in any race deserves credit for getting out there especially all those first timers.

Great to see so many PB’s and club members doing so well, with the return to races keep up the good work. Don’t forget Bill Adams Christmas run is Tuesday 14th Dec £2 and Christmas Party is 17th Dec £5 and £3 for U12’s.

That is finally it, so stay safe, healthy and injury free.

Until next time, have a good evening!
