Captains Corner - 19/09/2021

A busy few weeks to catch up on and we start on Bank Holiday Monday over at Barking Park. This was the sixth race in the Elvis League and as always we had a good turnout of 88’s at our local competitors fixture. Rob Newton was the first Dagger home in 21:19 followed by Gary Cardnell 23:06 in a close encohnter with Nils Hollmann on 23:15. Rahana Islam was the first of the Dagenham ladies home in 24:52. Then came Michael Pegnall 25:16 and John Hughes also on 25:16 then Jason Manning on 25:47, Louise Chappell on 26:56, Simon Childs on 27:19, Timi Veerasamy 27:49, Sonya Byers 28:26, Pascalia Pamba 33:00, Lee Davies 39:24 and Sam Veerasamy completed the 88’s in 44:00.

The last Elvis is at Valentines Park on 26th Sept. If youve not pit your name please do so a nice flat 5k course and the more the merrier.

Last week saw a great turnout of 88’s take on the Havering Half marathon and 10k. A great performance by Peter Salmon who came 11th overall and first in age group came in on a time of 1:28:33 for the half marathon which this was the full distance and on a warm day had Ingrebourne Hill at mile 10 inserted, thankfully we had Peter O'Shea and the recently returned Paul Prior giving all a lift at the top. Tracey Sheehy was 1:43:44, Nils 1:49:20, Rahana 1:59:22, Lynton Fairman 2:08:25, Rosina Salmon 2:08:45, Jason Manning 2:09:19, John Hughes 2:11:27, Emma Dudman 2:11:52, Simon Childs 2:17:17, Melissa Tuppen Embery 2:19:42. Then Timi came in on a time of 2:20::01 which gave her the 1st in age cat. Beverley Eagles then came in on 2:26:07 with Grace Kelly next on 2:31:25 with Emma O'Shea and Lorraine Moor Hilton next in both with a time of 2:33:46 and Lee Davies on 3:21:30. In the 10k we had Christine Lardner the first of the 88’s home in a time of 1:17:08 which won her a first in age cat. Richele Cockley also in a time of 1:17:09 then Jacqui Elliott on 1:36:17 and Natalie Summers 1:36:23. We then had a little tipple at the Harrow pub to celebrate a job well done! A big well done to all for running and a congratulations for all those first in age catagories.

Yesterday saw the start of Chingford league at Hog Hill, everyone’s favourite. Not the best of start times so we were a little depleted in numbers Billy Walkington brought the Dagger’s home in 22:08, Gary came next in 24:42 Michael Pegnall 26:11 and Natalie came home first for the 88’s ladies in 26:32 (although with an ultra around Hog Hill under her belt she knew her way round!). Daniel Miller on his return to the 88’s and back in his first race was next in on 28:14 Timi in 30:15 with Sonya in on 33:18 and Pascalia next in 36:36. Again a shout out to all those who turned up and well done.

We now come to some personal achievements in runs and also swim, where Jane Swanson-sprent completed the 5k swimathon in 1:55:12 and Rahana and Ryder completed the relay at the same distance in just under 2 hours. Timi completed Orion’s Forest 5 in a time of 51:33. Last not least Andy Beazeley and Jenny O'Hanlon took themselves to the toon and took on the Great North Run. Andy completed in 2:06:11 and Jenny in 2:13:30.Well done guys!! All that is left is to say is a big thank you to everyone that has come to support over the last few weeks it really does help.Keep on running everyone, stay healthy and injury free!
